J-35 - Disney Look

 Hello Everybody !!!

"Dear Deborah:

At the Walt Disney World® Resort, the friendly, timeless and approachable appearance of our Cast is something for which we're famous. This look is not a coincidence, but the result of our Cast Members' support of our Appearance Standards, referred to as the Disney Look. As you join our Cast, it is your responsibility to uphold these time-honored standards.

You are responsible for reading, understanding and adhering to the Disney Look guidelines upon arrival in Central Florida. Most of you will be provided a costume (our word for uniform) to wear when you are working in your location. There are also many times you will need to dress in your own professional clothes and adhere to the non-costumed guidelines. It is very important that you read all of the sections of this letter and the Disney Look guide prior to your arrival. For more information on the Disney Look, go to disneyinternationalprograms.com and click on the "Disney Look" link within your specific program's section before you arrive.

Non-Costumed reminders

Your first day of work will be an orientation class, known as Disney Traditions. You will need to wear your own professional clothing, as outlined in the non-costumed sections of the Disney Look guide. There will be other training days where you must wear professional attire too therefore, be sure to bring clothing that meets these guidelines otherwise you will not be able to attend.

Costume Sizes

Our costumes are designed to fit people of any size. Clothing for women is available in sizes 2-26. Clothing for men is available in sizes 28-54 (trousers) and 36-54 (jackets.) If your clothing size is larger than the sizes listed, please contact the Cast Image and Appearance Team via e-mail at wdw.disney.look@disney.com at least one month before you arrive. A fitting may be arranged during check-in to ensure that we have a costume to meet your needs.

Shoes when in costume

You are responsible for providing your own work shoes. The style of shoe will depend on your costume. The most common shoe styles are: solid black dress shoe, solid brown hiking boot, solid black athletic shoe, solid white athletic shoe, and solid black Teva style sandals (lifeguards only.)

Please do not purchase shoes prior to arrival. You will be informed of the specific color and style of shoe required for your position once you have arrived.

Orthodontic Features

Visible braces and retainers should be standard silver, gray or clear with similar colored rubber bands.

Eyewear

Prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses must be neutral in color and conservative in style. Decorative or brightly colored frames are not permitted.

Hair Colors and Styles If hair color is changed, it should appear natural. If it's highlighted, the highlights must be very subtle, only 1 or 2 shades away from the main color, well-blended with the rest of the hair and over the entire head. If hair is two defined colors (including braids), if roots are visible, or if the overall style or color does not appear natural, it will not meet the Disney Look guidelines. It will be up to you to change the color and/or style before beginning work.

Male Hair Styles
Hair must be neatly cut on the back and sides, forming a smooth, symmetrical appearance so that it does not extend beyond or cover any part of the ears or the shirt collar. Straight cornrows may be permitted, but the hair must still be cut above the collar. For detailed information about hair styles, please see the complete Disney Look guidelines.

Updated Guidelines for Roles Associated with Food & Beverage

In order to maintain a safe and healthy environment and comply with Florida state-mandated regulatory food standards, all Cast Members hired to work in any Merchandise or Food & Beverage establishment that prepares and/or serves food and beverage, regardless of role, are required to:

  • Keep fingernails trimmed and filed (not extended beyond the tip of the finger).

  • Not wear fingernail polish and/or artificial nails.

  • Not wear jewelry on arms or hands, including wristwatches and medical information jewelry. The exception is a plain (commitment/wedding) ring, without stones, engravings, raised designs or jagged edges. Acceptable options for medical jewelry include necklaces and ankle bracelets worn under costumes.

Tattoos and Body Modification

During your interview, your recruiter discussed with you our policies regarding tattoos and body modification. Contact your recruiter immediately if you have any additional tattoos since your interview since your role may change. If you have tattoos that will not be covered by your costume (on your hand, wrist, neck, etc.), you will need to cover them discretely by the time you arrive. Please contact your recruiter if you have a large, visible tattoo that may not be covered. Failure to cover visible tattoos may result in disciplinary action, not excluding termination.

Our company also has strict guidelines about body modification. If you have any visible body modifications (including ear spacings), they will need to be completely healed and/or corrected before you arrive. If you arrive with visible modifications, or if your ears are spaced, you will be immediately sent home.

Using Good Judgment

As with all your duties and responsibilities as a Walt Disney World Resort Cast Member, we expect you to demonstrate professionalism and good judgment about your appearance. If you are ever in doubt about the appropriateness of your appearance, please keep in mind that anything that could be considered distracting or not in the best interest of the Disney Show is not permitted.

Questions?

After reading the Disney Look guidelines, if you have Disney Look questions, please contact the Cast Image and Appearance team via e-mail at wdw.disney.look@disney.com.
